BQ500215 - LED signification unknown

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ500215, BQ51025

We have prototype a BQ500215 10W Emitter.

We have choose Led Mode 7 (100KOhms)

When I Test it with a BS51025EVM with 5Ohms Charge ON ( Vout 7V / R= 5Ohms > mostly 10W) we start 'High Transfert Powering (Led A ON) but after that it's goes to a LED C SLOW BLINKING Which is not described in the operational states.

Can Someone explain me the signification of Low led_C blinking in LED-MODE 7 and if any idea what to investigate ?

Cheers

  • In mode 7 LED C behavior will match Red LED for mode 2 and others.
Slow Blink for near FOD fault, unit is trying to reduce power and prevent hard FOD fault off.
Fast Blink for FOD Fault warning, loss is above threshold and shutdown will occur soon.
LED On for FOD Fault and TX shutdown.
  • Thanks for your answer. I guess FOD has to be calibrated now on our prototype ! Somehow it looks strange for me as this 'only' happen when I try to draw the 10W on the BQ51025EVM in the same condition except the load on it ! The foreign objects are mostly exactly the same in both condition. So I guess I miss something in the understanding of FOD. Gonna read a bit more, Could you give me the global procedure to calibrate FOD on my transmitter ?

    Regards
  • A quick fix for now is to increase the TX FOD threshold to avoid the problem. It is set by FOD resistor between Pin 23 and 60, EVM value is 56.2k for 400mW. For not this can be increased to 800mW, 178k ohms or disabled remove resistor. The FOD calibration procedure will set FOD threshold value and FOD_CAL value.
  • Thanks for your answer,

Well, removing the FOD resistor make the system working as wanted. For right now and debugging, I guess it will be fine since we will not

I guess that the FOD Calibration procedure need to have the all environment and 'final coupling' position between emitter and receiver prior to be launched and significative ?

As we are not that sure right now how far Receiver & emitter will be, I guess I should wait before trying this calibration ?

I understand the goal of FOD calibration, I will still need your procedure to achieve that.

By the way is there any minimum/maximum  distance between Emitter and Receiver Self Antenna to be respected for the BQ500215 / BQ51025 couple to be able to expect 10W transfer ?

    Regards
