Maximum distance between Rx and Tx Coil?

Hi,

Starting a new project where Wireless Power could be interesting, I've strong mechanical constraint : with IC's existing (BQ's family for example....) what is the maximum distance acceptable to ensure wireless Power working? 10mm, 20mm, more?

Design is specific, (receiver and transmitter home made, won't be used with unknown device, but need to have FOD active because system we'll be placed in metallic environnement

I haven't find informations, design ref, etc.....

Tanks for your help,

  • The wireless power solutions at TI are based on closely coupled systems per the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and AirFuel Alliance (AFA - formerly PMA and A4WP).  The specified spacing is 5mm.  Depending on your specific design, you may be able to achieve more than the 5mm.  Keys to increased spacing include the coils, the shielding and the spacing materials.

All of our receivers and transmitters feature FOD protection with calibration for your specific solution.

The evaluation modules are designed to meet the WPC (Qi) specifications.

    Regards,

    Dick
