BQ51003 TS-CTRL

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51003

Hello,

I would like to implement the temperature sense function of the BQ51003 and set a temperature range of 0 to 50DegC.  I'll set the resistors and NTC on the TS-CTRL line to do so.

My question is, if I have the device on the charger, it should shut down when the temp reaches 50DegC.  But if the device remains on the charger, will it begin to charge again when the temp drops below 50DegC or do I need to remove and replace the device to get it to begin charging again?

Thanks

Craig

  • Craig,

When the bq51003 measures over temperature on the TS pin, it will send a message to the transmitter.  The End Power Transfer Packet (EPT) sent in this case is 0x03 for Over Temperature (as seen in Table 5 of the datasheet).

The transmitter will receive this message and will stop power transfer.  TI Transmitters will not try to transfer power for 5 minutes after receiving EPT 0x03.  After 5 minutes, the TX will attempt to reestablish power transfer.  If the bq51003 is still in an over temperature condition, it will resend EPT 0x03.  If the bq51003 is not in over temperature, power transfer will resume.

    Regards,

    Dick

  • Thanks Dick,

Is this the Qi standard process? I'm using an off the shelf charger.

    Thanks
