BQ51010B: Unable to receive wireless power transmitted through BQ50002EVM-607 and trying to receive using custom made receiver

Part Number: BQ51050B
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS63051, BQ51010B,

Dear All,

I am trying to make a custom wireless power receiver (altium project attached) using BQ51010B and TPS63051 buck boost regulator to get 3.3V output.

I have thoroughly reviewed the documentation of both the ICs and selected the components as recommended. To get charge current (I_BULK) of 0.5A; I have selected R_ILIM. I am using 7.5uH (732-6211-ND) coil from Wurth.

Seemingly there is not much complication in the circuit but when I tested my Rx circuit with the BQ50002EVM-607; I get no voltage on BAT (pin4) of BQ51010B and neither obviously I am not getting anything at the output of TPS63051 as well.

Also I have some specific questions as well:

1. I have noticed a mistake in the design that I am trying to put the Rx Coil directly on the AC1 and AC2 terminals of the chips and the resonant caps are being bypassed. So my question is; what is the role of these resonant caps; are they really important that if we bypass them; we won't receive any power? Any literature on this?

2. I have not put any rechargeable battery or the load, I think the output voltage should have still be appeared. Right?

Can anyone please have a lot at my schematic and suggest me where the problem might be.

Thanks for your time.

  • Could you double check the device number, bq51010B is a 7V output wireless power RX and the bq51050B is a battery charger?
The coil is Wurth p/n 760308103206, above p/n is the Digi-Key Part Number, I think you are OK it is a large coil. What is the coil to coil distance?
Could you send a schematic of the ckt?
Also take a look at the FAQ section, it has a TX trouble shooting guide that will give some info on waveforms.
  • Dear Bill,
Sorry for the mistake; I am using BQ51050BRHLR .All Altium Files are attached in the zip file in the original post. I am just putting the coil on top of the Tx Coil of the 50002-EVM. Distance would be less than 1-2 mm.

    Thanks

  • Hi Bill,
Sorry for the mistake; I am using BQ51050BRHLR .

    Thanks
  • Dear Bill,

Did you get a chance to look into my schematic attached in the zip file in the original post? Did you notice any mistake?

    Looking forward to your help

Bill J--They are needed we have seen problem with communications if they are not present

    2. I have not put any rechargeable battery or the load, I think the output voltage should have still be appeared. Right?
Bill J--For the battery charger to start it will need to see a voltage on the output, best to add a battery or battery emulator, see below.
Voltage needs to be about 3.6V, below 3V and it is in pre-charge with low current, only a capacitor on the output will charge up to 4.2V quickly and enter charge complete.

If unit does not start send scope capture of voltage at RECT (pin 18).
