BQ51222: BQ51222

Part Number: BQ51222
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00318, BQ51003

I am looking to charge  small low power device from wireless power. General guidelines are to charge a 1Ahr battery in a 2 hour period. Looks like this chip provides almost everything except for the coil, so my questions are what coils do you recommend and can i just design a coil into a pcb? also what is the max distance of the coils and will it work if they are placed in such a way that they are not directly on top of each other?

Thanks!

  • Hi
For small low power take a look at bq51003 and TIDA-00318.
We did some work with RX PCB coils and have some info on them. But a large number of small RX coils are on the market and would be a better option, they can be changed quickly without spinning the board.
Coil to coil distance will depend on the coil size, bigger the coil the more it can be off set.
  • Hi Bill,

Could you point me to the notes of your pcb coil app notes? Coils cost about $1.5 dollars in high volume so if we could incorporate the coil into our pcb it would drastically reduce the price. Thank you!
