[FAQ] TDA4VM: The color of my Jacinto 7 VPAC (ISP) output image looks wrong. What should I check?

I use the VPAC (ISP) on a Jacinto 7 device (e.g., AM752/DRA829/TDA4xM) to process the raw input from an image sensor, but I get wrong output image color. What should I check?

    There are a few common causes of wrong VPAC output color.
    You may follow the list below to check if there is anything wrong in your system.
    1. Check if the color pattern of your image sensor
    - Bayer pattern is the most common color image sensor format.
    For a Bayer pattern image sensor, the first pixel in an image is one of the 4 possible colors R, Gr, Gb, B.
    Please look at the raw images you get from the sensor and make sure the starting color matches your Jacinto 7 VPAC configuration.
    – The problem is the same for other common color patterns such as RCCB.
    2. Check if AWB (Auto White Balance) is working properly
    – AWB is a piece of software in your system that ensures gray objects show up as gray in output image.
    – If AWB is running in your system and your output image has a bad overall color cast, it is very likely that AWB is not working properly.
    – Please check if your AWB is configured and calibrated properly.
    3. Check if color correction is tuned correctly
    – Color correction is a processing step in VPAC and it always keep gray objects (after AWB) as gray
    – If you see all gray objects are gray, but the color is not as vivid and saturated as you want, it is very likely that color correction is not tuned properly or not applied properly.
    – Please check if your color correction tuning and your AWB output of estimated color temperature are both correct.
    4. Check if IR-cut filter is installed in your camera
    – If IR-cut filter is not installed, the color may be wrong for certain objects that reflects IR.
