AM6526: How should some UARTs in MAIN, MCU and WKUP domains be used properly ?

Part Number: AM6526

Hi,

There are some UARTs in MAIN, MCU and WKUP domains on AM65x.

Is there any difference among these UARTs in these domains ?

How should these UARTs be used properly ?

The customer wants to use UART for debug, and they’re thinking to use WKUP_UART0 or MCU_UART0 other than UART[0-2] in MAIN domain.

Regards,

Hideaki

  • Hideaki-san,

All these UART modules are different instances of the same IP residing on different domains. A brief summary of the two domains are below, please refer to TRM for more specific differences.  Keywords to search for include "MCU domain," "WKUP domain," and "Main Domain."

Device MCU Domain:  Programs here can be executed while the rest of the chip is held in reset.  This domain follows the "chip-in-a-chip" concept.

Device WKUP Domain:  Programs here can support low power modes of operations; the domain also supports security precautions during power transitions

    Have a great day!

    Best Regards,
