AFE7444: sampling rate

Part Number: AFE7444

Hello,
Regarding the RF-sampling transceivers, what is the reason that the sampling rate of the DACs is always higer (at least 2 or 3 times higher) than of the ADCs?

  • Hi Max,

The DACs in AFE7444 are optimized for 1st Nyquist zone operation. ADCs on the other hand can be operated in 1st, 2nd ,3rd or 4th Nyquist zones. So higher sampling rate is used for DACs to support high output frequency bands. Higher DAC sampling rate also pushes the zero order hold image (at Fs- Fin) to higher frequencies relaxing the DAC output filter requirement.

    Regards,

    Vijay
