I'm using two GC5016, one in 4 channels DDC mode and the other in 4 channels DUC mode. The parameters of my design are:

CK: 40MHz

Ftune: 10MHz

cic_dec: 64

fir_dec: 2

fir_int: 2

cic_int: 64

Everything is ok except the following: I'm using the gc5016_filterdesign MATLAB script to design DDC and DUC FIR filter taps. First of all, I use a delta for the DDC filter and design the filter for the DUC, and everything works as expected. When I design the filter taps for the DDC and load them into the GC5016 I found that, without input signal, there are three tones at 10MHz, 10.104MHz and 9.896MHz. I'm reviewing all the documentation and posts on this forum, but I can't find neither explanation or idea wich explains what is happening.

Please can you help me to solve this? I'm completely stopped at this point

Thanks in advance

CIC_SCALE = 2^(SHIFT+SCALE+6xBIG_SCALE-62)

Corresponding to chart the CIC_SCALE is a block for shift input signal just before CIC-filter.
With the biggest values (SHIFT=7, SCALE=5, BIG_SCALE=7)

CIC_SCALE = 2^(7+5+6*7-62)= 2^(-8)

Is this means that from input signal (20 bits) only 12 bits is passed to the CIC?
I can't believe that we shift the signal so strongly even for the best case.
Why we have to calculate NCO and mixer with 20-bits precision if we shift it immediately to 12 bits?

Please, help me to understand this.

AFEDRI8201 HD Radio Reciver Chip

I found this interesting chip on the the TI web site:

I'm using for GC5016 to implement several tuned filters wich a cutoff frequency of 25kHz. Two of them are configured in 4-channel DDC mode, with Interleaved IQ output, and the others are configured in 4-channel DUC mode with real output. One of the DUCs is connected to the other through the SUM in port.

Each DDC GC5016 is connected directly to one DUC GC5016, without any kind of FPGA or CPLD.

I'm experiencing problems synchronizing the DDC-DUC interface. I was trying to use the SOB output of one GC5016 to synchronize the others (in the same way as explained in the datasheet) but it doesn't work. I'm also trying using two external signal connected to the SIB of each GC5016 and adding a delay between them in the same way as explained in the TSW4100 user guide. It either doesn't work...

I'm thinking about redesign the board to add an FPGA between the DDC and DUC, but before that I would like to know if there's any other method to synchronize both ICs.

I am actually interested in knowing if it is possible to generate a multi-tone signal, with QAM modulated signal (4QAM, 16QAM) on each tone, using this evm board. If yes, how could I get the base-band .mat file for this purpose?

The maximum number of tones is restricted by this hardware, but I would like to test with at least 10 tones, with equal spacing between the tones. The tone-spacing could be around 200 kHz up to 1 MHz.

The second question is, can we perform EVM measurements for a single carrier QAM (4QAM, 16QAM) signal using this board. I doubt that this is possible with this board, as the on board receive chain routs the signal back to the GC5325 chips, which use this information for DPD purposes. But I would like to see the constellation diagram being received. If it is possible, please advise. If I need additional hardware, which one do you propose?

The protocols will be digital using I/Q channels. Also any recommendations on converters would be great. I have a few I'm looking at but open to ideas.

I was considering using a UWB THA to level off the input but the cost may be a problem with that.

Thank you for your time.

We have initially procured GC5337 eval board which has provision to test only transmit & DPD feedback chain. modifications in the RX chain was required and it was sent to TI office for rework

we have received the board now and we have the following queries :

 1. Rework list which u have sent along with the board doesnt have any changes with RX chain (GC 5337),
 2. Document says to enable OMAP's "flash_sel" pin (R176 with 0 ohm) and GP80 from FPGA will be used as an Enable pin "FLASH_SCSN" for serial flash instead of "spi1_enable_in" from OMAP ??
 3. why R110 and R167 were removed and DSPI1_SIMO_IN /DSPI1_SOMI_IN connections were interchanged (master and slave) ??
 4. kindly let us know if any software changes are required , we will be using the same configuration code in our design .

Kindly explain the purpose why OMAP in this case (after rework) uses serial flash (U43-M25P64)

In our design we will be using serial flash (U43) only for configuring FPGA and not for omap , since omap application code can be configured using Parallel NOR flash (U27-S29GL256P10TFI010).

RF application for amateur radio, HF ,VHF and UHF communications

I by no means am a digital or analog engineer, How ever I do have a dream of coming up with a simple inexpensive software defined radio kit for new ham radio operators to get high performance and low cost.
In our RRH (Remote radio heads) for 2x2 LTE TDD design , we are using GC5337 & OMAP L138 for DUC,DDC,CFR & DPD functions .

We use an SFP module which interfaces to FPGA , FPGA receives baseband data along with certain other messages(channel activation/deactivation ) after CPRI deframing .

We need to have some interface from FPGA to OMAP to pass on these messages to OMAP ,since OMAP is the master which configures GC5337 & RF .

Can we use GPIO /SPI peripherals of OMAP to interface with FPGA to receive these messages or kindly suggest the alternative

currently on GC5337 eval board ,OMAP interfaces to FPGA and GC via EMIF interface. FPGA receives DPD coefficients from OMAP on this interface. Is this provision only an optional , can i use the same EMIF for passing on baseband messages to OMAP ?

GC5325 installation

I have lost my installation disk.
- tswconfig (SCBP mode).

I have noticed that if Iconnect the TSW output to a spectrum analyser, a tone appears in the selected LO frequency. However, this only happens when using the Matlab GUI, when we try to use the tswconfig application, nothing happens. It seems that the tswconfig application is not doing anything.

Thank you.

Strange steps in band (GC5016)

Hi,

I tried to create 4 independent channels with 5MHz bandwith, continuously behind. (Center at 85, 90, 95, 100MHz) on TSW4100. It works, but On the spectrum analyzer I saw some steps (on attached screen shot). Please could some explain what this steps means? I enclose screen shot of TSW4100 GUI also.

I am using Anritsu spectrum analyzer with trigger generator (0 dBm output power).

Thank you.
