Hi,
I just recently bought the eZ430-TMS37157 Development Tool. It is an RFID tag and transponder board that comes with a demo software which can be downloaded from the internet.
After downloading and installing all the necessary software and drivers and making all proper connections between the computer and transponder board every time I open the demo software, to test out the tag's signal processing, I receive this odd error (as seen in the screenshot). It is telling me that an "Unhandled exception" has occurred and that the given port name does not start with COM/com or does not resolve to a valid serial port. Once I hit continue the message pops right back up and will continuously do so forcing you to eventually hit quit.
I have tried restarting the computer, trouble shooting COM ports, as well as re-downloading and installing software and drivers. I can't seem to figure out what is causing this error to occur and really need to be able to use the demo software.
Please help!
Hi Eric,
I have seen this COM port error on a couple of machines. Please try the attached GUI instead. You will need to manually select the COM port from the "expert mode" tab.
Best Regards,

Hi Eddie,Thanks so much for such a quick response!
This new GUI that you sent works great and solves the error I was receiving earlier but the reason I needed the Demo Software was to utilize the "Resonant Trimming" tab. The problem is, the new GUI you sent me does not have the "Resonant Trimming" function and when I try to set the COM ports in the new GUI then revert back to the original Demo Software I still see the same error and cannot access the "Resonant Trimming" function.
Why does this error keep appearing and how can I fix this problem to get to the "Resonant Trimming" tab??Please help! and Thanks!
Eric,
I am looking into a solution to fix the exception error and offer the resonant trimming functionality. I will let you know what we come up with shortly. Sorry for the inconvenience.
On your base station board, does it contain the CP2102 or FTDI FT232? You will find this IC on the USB interface board near the push button.
On my base station board the IC is a CP2102.
Please let me know if there is any other information I can give or anything else I can do to help. Thanks very much
-Eric
I am having this same problem. My board uses the FTDI chipset. I installed the tools from swrc164.zip and swrc172.zip.
