A1101R04 range Issue

Hello,

For one of the project initially I used A1101R08 (868MHz). But the range was less when our customer tested in site. All the modules were mounted inside the plastic enclosure.

Now I have changed the modules to A1101R04 (433Mhz) thinking the penetrating will be better. In both the cases the datarate was 4.8Kbps.

For A1101R04 I am using the below settings from Anaren.

A1101R04C_M12_GFSK_4.8kB_12.7kDev_58kRX_PA_Table_0x53.txt

Without the enclosure the range is good but when the modules are placed inside the plastic enclosure the range is less then 20Mts with external antenna.

Can you please let me know the cause and solution for the same.

The casing most likely impact the antenna impedance. You should re-tune the antenna to the casing used.

Hello Ter,

I guess the casing should not have any impact on the range as they are plastic. I know there will be some impact, but the range less than 20Mts is too low.

Can you please let me know how to retune the antenna?

Plastic may shift the resonance of the antenna a lot depending of the type of plastic and how close it is to the antenna.

Not sure about what is possible to do antenna tuning wise on the Anaren modules, not sure if components are included to do this (I don't have schematic here). If not possible, is it possible to change the distance to the plastic etc?
