LMX2512

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2541, LMX2581, LMX2531

I would like to use the LMX2512 to generate frequencies between 930MHz and 950MHz. The LMX2512 has a range from 954.42 to 979.35, but there is a mention note "For other frequency ranges, please contact Texas Instruments" in the datasheet.

So is there any chance to make the LMX2512 working at my frequencies?

Besides, there is no precise information concerning the impedance matching for inputs/outputs, the consumption depending on output power, ... Are there any hidden application notes or examples for this components ?

Thanks !

Hugo

  • Hugo,

The LMX2512 is targeted at a very specific market and as a result has a narrow VCO tuning range, very restricted values for input frequency, very restricted choices of the fractional denominato, and limitations on the N divider.  So be sure that you do not get caught up in these other limitations.

Assuming there are no other issues, the part has a good chance of doing the frequency you want, but  I have no board or data o test or support this claim.   Also, in terms of giving a guarantee in the datasheet, this would require very high volumnes.   We don't have any hidden application notes and no evaaution boards available.

In general, for appliations outside what this device specifically targets, we often recommend the LMX2531 family, LMX2541 family, and LMX2581 family, all that can meet your frequency range.

Considering that you like the LMX2512, you might consider the LMX2531LQ1910E that is low currrent and can do this freqency range.

  • Dean,
    Thanks for the answer.

I do like the LMX2512 because of its very low current consumption (17mA typ) comparing to the other products (my application is battery powered).

Considering what you've said, I think I'll go for the LMX2531LQ1910E for a "clean" application.
