TRF37T05 / Application from 400MHz to 1GHz

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF37T05, TRF37T05EVM

Hoping you assist with the following questions regarding the TRF37T05 in an application that requires the part to function over an output range of 400MHz to 1GHz.

1) Can TI recommend the optimal impedance match over this band that could be validated with TRF37T05EVM.

2) Can TI provide any additional performance data beyond what is shown in the data sheet from 550MHz down to 400MHz. Specially  the output power, P1dB, IP3 etc would of great interest.

3) Can TI provide S parameters for the part?  Specifically, S11 at the LO input port, and S22 would be of interest.

4) Can TI please confirm the lifecycle of the TRF37T05 is suitable for design in and production for the next 5-7 years.

  • The S-parameter file for the RF output is provided below.  There is no S-parameter file avaialble for the LO input.  Check out the application report (http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slaa525) that discusses RF matching the device.  There is information about the LO return loss and matching the device at lower frequencies.

The TRF37T05 employs an integrated balun at the output.  As the frequency approaches the edge of balun's bandwidth, there is degradation to gain and IP3 performmance.  Matching at those frequencies will improve the performance, but it will be narrow band.  Developing an optimized broadband match to service 1 GHz and 400 MHz simultaneously will be difficult; however, it is likely a match can be designed to give adequate performance across that band, depending on the system requirements.

The TRF37T05 is a fully released part and, per TI policy, will not be discontinued.  It will definitely still be in production for the next 10 years and beyond.
