LMX2582 and LMX2592VCO calibration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2582

Hello,

- Does the VCO calibration process in the LMX2582/92 need the loop to be closed ?(Charge pump disabled or not connected ).

- If the VCO can be calibrated when the loop is open and  setting the desired frequency, what final frequency error can be expected?.

Thank You

  • Menachem,

No, the device not care.  When the VCO calibration is active, the loop filter is disconnected and the calibration runs.  Internally, the tuning voltage is fixed to about 1.2V.  Then after the VCO settled, the loop filter is reconnected.

When the VCO calibration is finished, the frequeny error is in the ballpark of a few MHz.

The TI PLLatinum Sim tool models the lock time for these devices, including VCO calibration.
