FDC2114EVM: Can we make distance sensors for laser processing machines by TI Capacitive Sensing devaice?

Hello,

I would like to know whether FDC2114 or FDC1004Q or other TI Capacitive Sensing device can be used to make distance sensor for laser processing machines. That distance is between the laser launch nozzle and the metal workpiece being processed, and I want to controle about 5mm-10mm. Waiting for your reply.

    Hi,

    It sounds like inductive sensing would be a better approach than capacitive sensing since the distance can be measured by a metal detection. Please take a look at the LDC devices (www.ti.com/ldc) and let me know if it fits your application.
