Design question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1310, TRF7960, TPS22860

Hi,

I do not know did I choose right group, but I have one design question. We currently have in production RFID reader with CC1310 and Sub-1GHz link to central system. Everything is working like charm, but, now, we will like to move it to battery power, and we looking for sensor which will allow us to wake up system if something enter proximity range. We are looking in cap sensing and we see few options that will fit into this, but we do not have any experience with this technology.

So, my questions are:

1. which IC will be recommended for this purpose?

field detecting range cca. 15-20 cm

2. will cap sensor antenna make interference, since we already have two - 13.56MHz RFID and 433MHz CC1310

Thank you for support, if I miss group, can you, please, point me to a right one

  • Hi Goran,

The FDC2x1y family could work for a detection range of 15-20cm. Refer to our application note on Capacitive Proximity Sensing for more information on this. The schematic below shows the LC tank connected to INxA and INxB pins of our FDC device. Set the C sensor to the nominal sensor capacitance. For improved noise performance due to EMI, you could add ferrites shown below.

  • Hi,

thank you for answer. This was something we are looking in right now, and I just want to confirm that we are on right track.

We will use this in combination with nano power sys timer, TPS22860 switch, CC1310 MCU and TRF7960 RFID.

We will try it and see how it work.
