FDC2212: Accurate distance measurement with the FDC2212

Can this device be used to accurately measure the distance between two Aluminium plates where one plate is the actual sensor connected to the device and the other is grounded. If so, can you please point me to some documentation around this? Thanks.

    In theory, this could work; however, the FDC family really shines with relative measurements. For absolute measurements, you will see drift because of temperature, oscillator stability, etc. Using a reference coil will help to calibrate out some of this variation.

    A quick way to see if this will work is to connect the FDC2212 EVM to your actual sensor. You can then see if the signal to noise ratio is enough for your desired resolution.
