DRV425: DRV425

Part Number: DRV425

Hello,

What would happen if the magnetic flux density above 2mT applied in the perpendicular direction to sensitivity axis of DRV425? Does this field saturates the fluxgate sensor when the field is above 2mT. What are the limits of magnetic flux density for the axis which is perpendicular to sensitivity axis?

Best Regards,

Gangi

  • Hello Gangi,

The rejection on the non sensitive axis is pretty good but I do not have a solid specification for you. The difficult thing to get this information is precision placement of the device when making these measurements. I can confidently say you will not saturate the DRV425 if the field is not in the axis of sensitivity. I can make crude measurements due to mechanical placement inaccuracy and I will be limited on the amount of precision field I can generate. What is the level of field you would like to reject? What level is acceptable?
  • Hello Gangi,

I have not heard from you in a while so I will assume you resolved your issue and close the thread.

  • Hello Javier Contreras,

Thank you very much for the information. The maximum flux density in the direction perpendicular to the sensitivity axis is 3.8mT in the application. As I understood from your email reply, it does not saturate the sensor. It is indeed a very good news for us.

    Best Regards,
    Gangi
  • Hello Javier Contreras,

I have one more question with regards to the DRV425 magnetic field operating range. As per the data sheet, the maximum operating magnetic flux density is 2mT. We planned to use these devices in differential mode for current sensing application. We have designed the busbar for 1000A current range and it fits quite well and the magnetic field at the location of the sensor is < 2mT. However, this product goes in to an application where the external magnetic field could be as high as 3.8mT in the sensitive axis direction. This external field saturates the DRV425 sensors and do you have any suggestion to operate these devices up to 5.8mT ( 2mT actual field from busbar + 3.8mT external field) or Does TI has any alternative fluxgate sensors with the operating field range up to 5.8mT?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Gangi
  • Gangi,

We do not have another flux gate that can operate at a higher field.  Can you change your orientation?  Will that help? We have some documentation that could help with that.  I provided the link below.  We also have hall sensors that operate at higher field but they are a different technology altogether.
