DRV425: Bus Bar Application - Max Differential Magnetic Field (Bdiff)

Part Number: DRV425

Hi Team,

I have a question on the Bus Bar Application Magnetic Field Calculator for the DRV425. Understand that each DRV425 saturates at 2 mT, so the system should be designed to keep the magnetic field below this value. However, in the calculator tool mentioned above the Differential Magnetic Field (Bdiff) value turns red if it exceeds 2 mT.

Can I get some clarity on if this value also needs to remain under 2 mT or is it only the two individual sensor magnetic fields that I need to pay attention to?

Thanks,
Mitchell

  • Mitchell,

    Thanks for using this forum.

The calculator is a guide and we placed a limit there because the way the circuit is designed the limit differential is about 2mT.  The reason for this is that the circuit drives two compensation with half the drive from each DRV425.

The limitation is described in better detail in our Bus Bar Theory of Operation document in section 4.1  Circuit Analysis of the Dual DRV425 Bus Bar Application and in particular section 4.15 Circuit Design Considerations.

Please let me know if you need further assistance with this.
