HDC1080 can used in Detection of soil moisture ？

Hi Roy,

I suppose that there is no problem to use the HDC1080 in soil moisture detection: the only precaution could be to avoid direct contact of the sensing element with the ground .
Can you give us more details on the application, so that we can figure out if there are other side effects?

Application info: I need to test the temperature and humidity of the soil, but requires high precision of the detection of humidity, temperature。
Products need to into the soil，so the HDC1080 can meet？

I have the some question, I have a customer that need to measure soil humidity. (Expected volumes: 20K per year).

Can you please advise if there is a possibility to measure soil humidity with the HDC1080 like the above setup 

If not, can you please recommend me device that can implement this kind of application .

Hi Shai,
For your application, and with the setup you reported in your post, probably the best solution is the use of the capacitive sensing (FDC):

In fact, changing the soil humidity, will change the capacitance seen between the two electrodes of the sensor. With the FDC you can measure the capacitance change, and calculate the soil humidity.
