HDC1080: Heater usage real life scenario

Part Number: HDC1080

Dear Sirs,

could you please tell about any example of heater usage in real life?

After reading datasheet, I know that it helps to "recover" faster after high humidity conditions. But I don't really understand how it may help with such a little temperature increase.

I've done two tests with HDC1080 soldered on my PCB with heater disabled and enabled:

26.2 C -> 26.7 C (measuring once per second)
26.2 C -> 27.0 C (measuring 5 times per second)

Temperature values are obtained from HDC1080 of course.

So there are two questions:

1. Please validate if my test readings are possible (since I read nearby difference with heater on and off should be about 3-10 degrees).

2. Please give real life scenario when using heater makes a difference.

  • Hi Pavel,

    1. Yes, you results are reasonable. Please notice that a further increase of the sampling frequency (for example 50 samples per seconds) should enable you to reach 1.5 - 2 degrees of temperature variation.

    2. Yes, I agree that the delta in temperature is limited, but for sure this helps in any case in reducing the time for the offset recovery after long exposure at high humidity conditions, compared to the condition of Heater switched off. The other purpose of the heater is for device selftest.

    Best regards,
    Carmine
