HDC1080: placement of sensor from microcontroller

Part Number: HDC1080

Hello ,

i want to measure temperature and humidity  of outdoor environment so i have chosen HDC1080 mode which is measure both combine module ,but now problem is that my micro controller will be the shielded box and i have to place this sensor outside the box so i am thinking about making breakout board for sensor and place outside. but dont know how long max  i can place sensor that will not affect on output reading.

i am thinking  place sensor around 20 cm apart from micro controller. it will affect my output or not?

if yes then how to improve it or eliminate  via software or hardware

  • Hi,

Your solution is correct, the sensor have not be placed in the microcontroller box, but directly in contact with the environment you want to measure.

The distance of the board from the microcontroller does not impact the performances of the sensor, but could impact the electrical levels of the I2C communication.

20 cm wires distance should be ok to prevent I2C communications errors, but for longer distance a I2C buffer it is recommended.

Please let me know if this replies to your question.

    Best regards,

    Carmine

  • Dear carmine,

Thank you for your valuable response and it will help me lot.

let me confirm it  by doing it practically with buffer and let you know about results
