HDC1080: Constant zero humidity. Working temperature.

Part Number: HDC1080

Hi,

I am working on prototype sensors that use the HDC1080 humidity sensor.

Some of the sensors work as expected.

However, some of the sensors have only ever had a humidity measurement of 0.

The temperature sensor of the HDC1080 works in all cases.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Peter

  • Howdy Peter,

And welcome to e2e! Humidity sensors require special care when it comes to storage, handling, and ambient exposure. As the sensor is exposed, special care must be taken as any particles, vapors, etc could possible contaminate the sensor, and therefore corrupt the reading. Long exposures to UV light, visible light or high concentration chemical vapors for prolonged periods may shift the RH output and should be avoided. Exposure to to high concentrations of out-gassed solvent vapors for long times should be avoided during manufacturing, transport and operation. In addition to these handling requirements, the sensors require a specific standard reflow when mounting the devices onto a PCB. The sensor is qualified to withstand soldering profile according to IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020 with peak temperatures at 260C.

Can you give more insight into how the devices were mounted on the PCB, or if there are any contaminants near the vicinity of the product? Other important and applicable information is found on page 18 of the DS, under "Implementation and Usage Recommendations".

In addition to these questions, may I ask the end application of your product?

If you have any other questions please let me know, and additionally if the information provided above does answer you questions please press the resolved button.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
