HDC1080: The humidity read is abnormal

Part Number: HDC1080

Hi all

Reading temperature is normal, but reading humidity is abnormal,as follows:

The initial humidity is 45%,then I blow the sensor, the humidity is going up,when go to 49%,if continue to go up,the humidity become into 208,then can keep going up.

Please help analysis it,Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Went,

There are special handling procedures when designing with the HDC devices.  Any particle contaminates introduced to the polymer sensor will affect the reading and may damage the device. Since the HDC1080 has an exposed sensor on the top of the package, the user must ensure that no contaminates are introduced through the window.  Breathing onto the sensor may affect the polymer which is responsible for measuring and recording the readings.  I've provided a document about Handling and storage of these devices, and the effects of contaminates.

  • Hi,Matt

I don't breath onto the sensor, take it in good ventilation, but the same abnormal, the humidity become into 208.
    So I don't understand why.
  • Hi Went,

It sounds like a communication or post-processing issue from the controller that is recording the data.  Please refer to page 14 of the DS for the HDC1080 device.  Using the Relative Humidity equation, along with HUMIDITY register you can calculate the maximum humidity as 100%.  Please ensure that the register, along with calculations provided in the datasheet are implemented correctly.

    Best Regards,

    Matt
