Problem about LDC1000 & 2~3 coils with analog switch.

Guru 19495 points

please let me know about the case of using one LDC1000 & 2~3 coils, it changes with an analog switch.

I understand that it is need to design 2~3 coils in the same characteristic.

But, when the characteristic of the coils are different, what kind of problem can be considered?

(Is there any point worried besides threshold level and Rp value?)

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hello,

Yes, the sensor frequency register (0x03) may need to be changed to match the different sensor (LC tank) frequencies.

An additional point to consider with different frequency coils multipexed to a single LDC1000 is that there is a startup time for the sensor and so you will need to discard the first sample result whenever switching channels.

  • Hi Oberhauser,
I plan to use the LDC1000 also with an analog multiplexer as Satochi. I think to use the ADG732, for multi channel sampling (8 identical LC designed coils). Is the ADG732 suitable, or is there a better analog switch for that purpose ? What are the main points to take care with ? Thanks a lot in advance.
  • Hello Carlos,

    Here is what we recommend:

    IM03GR TE Connectivity
    G6K-2F-Y DC3 Omron
    AGQ21003 Panasonic Electric Works

Please, send me a private message with your email address and I will be able to send you more information on system implementation.

  • Hi Natallia ,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
In fact we need analog silicon multiplexing, not multiplexing with mechanical relays.
The switch has to work several times by second (around 100Hz), this is not compatible with mechanical relays lifetime...
    Regards.
  • Hello Carlos,

Thank you for explanation. I will forward you the note once I get your email.

  • Hello Natallia,

May I also have the application note? Perhaps you can provide a link to it? I am very interested in the switching timing because we need to follow one target over several coils And the targets speed is about 1m/s, so we do not have a lot of time... By the way: while in sleep mode the LDC is still oscillating, right?

    Thank you very much!

    Best regards,
