Can you provide more information about which example code you are trying to build and what is the 'printf' error that is showing up?

If you can share the screenshot of the same, it would be very helpful.

I have provided the reference project names above. They come in a zip file provided by TI called "snac059". This is standard source code downloaded from TI, can't find the exact link right now.

The "printf" error says the following:

<Linking>

"../lnk_msp430g2553.cmd", line 61: error: program will not fit into available

  memory.  placement with alignment fails for section ".text" size 0x427c .

  Available memory ranges:

  FLASH        size: 0x3fe0       unused: 0x3eb0       max hole: 0x3eb0    

error: errors encountered during linking; "C4_Example.out" not built

>> Compilation failure

gmake: *** [C4_Example.out] Error 1

gmake: Target `all' not remade because of errors.

Again, I am using the source code as provided, and I have default CCS6 settings, except for the linking options. Below are screen shots:

I now understand what is the problem.

You can try importing the CCS project with name "LDC1000_G2xx3_Threshold" into your workspace and try compiling LDC1000_G2xx3_XTAL project.

The linking error is because the library files are present in "LDC1000_G2xx3_Threshold"  project and being required in "LDC1000_G2xx3_XTAL" project (during linking) when you are compiling.

Please let me know if this resolves the problem.

Just to make sure...
should the XTAL project also be copied to the workspace?

I am interested in building all of the projects relevant to the G2xx3. I am trying to get the DRDY one as well.
I tried this time importing the project containing the sample code 'snac059' and imported just the ones I was concerned with. I got the same printf warning I posted above. It is about spacing in memory...

currently my workspace contains DRDY, XTAL, and Threshold projects. Again, I'm trying to see some console action via printf

there seems to be no clear resolution in the issue, yet the code promotes the use of this function specifically for the MSP430. If you try exactly as I have explained, you will find the problem. It is obviously not an error of missing sources. There is something related with linker space...

can you explain how you are relating a problem of "missing sources" ( which is what you are trying), to a problem with "memory space" , which is what I am presenting? 

would you mind also showing your compilation and linking output?
i noticed you cut that out of the picture? have you tried building and linking yourself?

I am not exactly sure why you are getting the memory error. Did you make any changes to the code?

when I comment out the printf statements I can compile and upload without a problem. As soon as you enable them, it just doesn't fit in the device. there is no way we are compiling the same thing with the same settings. there is a size limitation. it is not a file missing/modification.

well, one thing I realized is that the THRESHOLD project compiles fine with a 'printf' statement...will try giguring out whats happening

I hope only the memory error is showing up and there is no linker error.

The printf statement surely eats up a lot of memory space. In my case the flash space changed from 12% to 96% full when I uncommented the printf statement.

You can see that in "Memory Allocation" window. Can you check the same in your case?

Hello,

I just checked and I noticed the following:

For the DRDY project:

the problem seems to be size of '.txt'

For XTAL, the problem is .bss

In the threshold, notice where '.txt' is allocated.... (FLASH)

I had not noticed this. How can I make this change manually?

I happen to have a different one. I don't know if it comes from the fact that I am currently running CCS Version: 6.0.1.00040
I am currently installing version 5.5.0.00077. My current version only allows me to select among the following:
4.4.3
4.4.2
4.3.3
GNU 4.9.1

can you confirm if you are using CCS 5? I just want to make sure I can fully replicate what you are doing...

Sometimes, different compiler versions can create the issue. Yes, try that and hopefully that will be able to solve it.

Version 6.0.0 CCS and compiler version 4.3.1 allow the projects to work...
