LDC1000 Spring Inductance measure Method

Hi,

I have one question about Spring Inductance measure method, now the Spring parameter as below.

Diameter = 5.9 mm

Number of Turns = 13

Height = 24 mm

How can to Calculate the Spring inductance?

Now use LCR meter to measure the inductance that it is 2.2uH.

Would you kindly share the Spring design application note for our reference?

Hello Eric,

the spring inductance can be estimated with Wheeler's formula. The LDC calculator spreadsheet contains tab which does this calculation: www.ti.com/.../getliterature.tsp

Hi Ben,

Thanks your information.

But I use the formula to Calculate the Spring inductance then got the value is 0.22uH.

Now use LCR meter to measure the inductance that it is 2.2uH.

Would you kindly help to check if have any problem for that?

Hello Eric,
unless the spring is unusual (eg. diameter is much wider than its length), the equation usually provides a fairly accurate estimate.
Are you perhaps using any long wires between LCR meter and the spring? Have you calibrated your LCR meter with the leads that you are using before measurement? What inductance does the LCR meter read if you replace the spring with a short?
