Pot classification for induction cooking range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1614

Hi,

Can LDC device classify a material of pot?

For example, aluminum pot can't be used for induction cooking range.

For using this pot, pot manufacturer adds iron in aluminum.

I think its conductance is different so inductance should be different by material of pot.

I already check it using LDC1614 but it is difficult to be classified through checking inductance.

Could you advise for above question?

Thanks.

  • Hello David,

yes, this can be done, but you will need the LDC1000 for metal type identification applications. The LDC1000 can perform both RP and L measurements, and can operate at low frequencies down to 5kHz, at which it is easier to differentiate metal. You can then plot a few different metal types on a 2D-map (RP vs. L) to identify which pot is placed on the cooker.
