LDC2114: Angular measurement application

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: LDC2114

Hi

Our customer want to use LDC2114 for angular measurement application.

We understand LDC1x1x is suitable for such application but LDC2114 is offering lower cost.

(Accuracy is not required)

LDC 2114 has baseline tracking feature.

Because of this feature, I think LDC 2114 can not measure absolute position that how far the target has moved while LDC2114 is not powered.

Is my understanding correct?

Is it possible to be disable this feature?

BestRegards

  • Hello,
The LDC2114 has the ability pause the baseline tracking feature (BTPAUSEx bits) when DATAn value has crossed the Switching Threshold. Refer to pages 33-34 of the LDC2114 datasheet for more information about the basic function and pages 20-21 for the register information. Additionally, depending on the speed of rotation you can slow down the baseline tracking timing using the NP_BASE_INC register. However, for incremental rotation applications the main thing to look for are the rising/falling edges, not the steady state of the data so controlling the baseline tracking is not as critical.

  • Hi Luke

    Thank you.

I was misunderstanding about Baseline tracking feature.

    Let me clear my question.

When powering up, LDC1x1x series can return the current state to be measured (depending on surrounding object) .

On the other hands, LDC2114 returns DATA = 0 independent on how surrounding object is, when powering up.

What is this feature of LDC2114 called?  We want to disable it and use LDC2114 like as LDX1x1x if possible.

  • Hi

I'm happy if you could give us your view.

  • Hi na na78,

The BTPAUSE feature in the LDC2114 only pauses the baseline when the DATAx value crosses the switching threshold, see below:

At power up, the LDC2114 takes a baseline measurement and this measurement is not configurable. The LDC2114 provides information about the relative changes in inductance value of the sensor.

  • Hi Varn

    Thank you for your reply.
