LDC1312: Coil configuration

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: LDC1312

Hi

Our custmer is considering the following configuration using LDC1312.

Now they have questions about the configuration and PCB coil.

①: Using two PCB coil for sensing (Coil A and Coil B), there is possibility the coil A and coil B influence by each, I guess.

If yes, how gap should we take between coid A and coil B?
What rotating direction of each coil is recommended in such arranging side by side? Same direction?

BestRegards

  • Hi na na78,

The LDC1312 muxes the sensor pins so only one sensor is on at a time which reduces the possibility of cross talk between the sensors. In extreme cases cross talk can still be an issue and can be avoided by keeping the center to center distance between the coils at 2D where D is the diameter of the coil. The direction of the coils will not be relevant in this context.

It seems like you are interested in measuring the linear position of the sensor. If so, you can utilize a stretched coil in doing so. You can learn more about designing stretched coil in Section 2.1 of the LDC sensor design app note. More information about linear sensing with the LDC devices is included in the following app note,
