LDC1000: Electronic Coin Selector

Part Number: LDC1000

Hello,

I would like to implement an electronic coin selector by using LDC technologies so to recognize the different metal composition of the coins so to detect different coins values.

I was looking at LDC1000.

Do we have AppNote? TIDesign for this application?

Or is LDC1000 the right component for the application?

Thanks,

  • Hello,
We currently have not released an application note on detecting metal composition. However, the principle using the LDC1000 is to use the inductance reading and the Rp reading to determine the unique metal that is presented to the sensor. Some metals with the same conductivity have significantly different permeability so the complex impedance reading you get (R + j X) will be unique to that metal type. For the best results, you will need to ensure that the distance between the sensor and the metal is constant, the sensor is completely covered by the metal, and that your operation frequency is low enough to take advantage of the Rp measurement. Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Luke
