Linux/LDC1000EVM: Python Script

Dear ladies and gents,

I d like to interface the LDC1000 EVM module using the little python script posted in the FAQ section. The 'legacy protocol' doesnt work for me as intended. Is it because I own a new version (shipped 3 days ago) and the 'legacy protocol' isnt supported anymore? Are there any new Software API's available to interface the evaluation board over USB?

Hello,

I'm not sure about the backwards comparability of the python code in the FAQ, but have you first tried to communicate over the COM port using the SPI protocol outlined in the datasheet?

I was able to communicate with the device and read from the device using RealTerm (example below). If you get this working then you should be able to use python to communicate using the same SPI protocol.

Note that we recommend to update to the latest firmware which is included with the download of the Sensing Solutions GUI: www.ti.com/.../snoc028

The location of the LDC1000EVM firmware is typically installed in the following folder:

C:\ti\Sensing Solutions EVM GUI-1.9.3\EVM Firmware\LDC1000

Hello Luke,

thanks for the quick reply. Your suggestion worked out for me.
One can solve communication issues by sending straight byte arrays and not encoding the hex numbers utf-8.
So as I mentioned above CDC protocol given in the FAQ section didnt work out for me.

Hi Luke,

so the easiest way to solve this is to install an old firmware version for the ldc1000evm (see: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/inductive-sensing/f/938/t/324500) .
Once you installed the old firmware you are able to use the USB CDC protocol provided in the FAQ section ( see: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/inductive-sensing/f/938/t/295036

Maybe the new GUI version uses another protocol and therefore the up to date firmware is not supporting the CDC protocol. If you can find something it would be nice to provide that in the FAQ section as well.
