LDC0851: Using LDC0851 as a touch bottom

Part Number: LDC0851
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC2114, LDC1614

Hi Team,

My customer is looking for a low cost touch bottom solution to replace one mechanical bottom on smart meter. LDC0851 is cost effective but it require a flexible bottom as below, do you have any recommend solution for lost cost touch bottom? Thanks a lot!

Regards!

  • Hi Yangbo,

The reason the LDC0851 must have a target mounted on conductive material is because the LDC0851 must see about 1mm of target movement to detect a button push. Other, more precise LDC devices (like the LDC2114 and LDC1614) are more expensive, but they do not need the target to be mounted on flexible material, which may reduce the production cost of the system. The LDC2114 and LDC1614 can be used for "touch on metal" buttons, like in this inductive touch reference design. The LDC2114 is especially suitable for button applications because it can account for small metal deformations in the target and temperature shifts without the need for a reference sensor.

  • Hi Kristin,

    Thank you very much!
But the material should be metal and it is too expensive for this application.
