IWR1443: measuring leveling of a container with a geometrical shape of height line.

Part Number: IWR1443

Hello,

My of my costumer rise to me the following question .

If it possible to implement measuring leveling of a container with Solid Material, when the container is pumped out, a geometrical shape is formed inside of the container's height line (Cone shape turns down).

Please can you advise if mmWave are suitable for this kind of container measurement application with this type of material? Possible of solution with several components as well.

It is important to note when a container is filled, Dust begins to rise.

I would appreciate your help,
Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Shai,

Trying to understand the application requirements a little better here.
Need to measure the level of solid (filled) in container.
level of surface would vary at different points on the surface.
Shape of the material would be 'cone shaped' as it is being emptied out
Concern about dust during the empty out process.
    Are the above assumptions correct.

Industrial mmWave devices can be used for level measurement. If the surface is expected to be uneven then measurements would have to made at various points on the surface to determine the overall level.
Rising dust could form a weaker reflection in comparison to the reflection from surface of interest and that could help is eliminating false reads.

Please note reflection strength depends on RCS value of the material and as such the reflection from material of interest can be studied a bit to identify the pattern of interest.

If you start with IWR1443BOOST it should allow you to start experimenting with reflection data from the material and get a better understanding of how to tailor the device configuration for detection.

    Thank you,

  • Hello Vaivhav,

I highly appreciate your detailed explanation and I will suggest to the customer to try using IWR1443BOOST first .
Do you have any recommendations for settings that might be more optimized for such an application, that i can guide my costumer ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,
    Shai Berman
  • I forgot to mention that your assumptions are correct.
with one exceptional that the dust occur during the filling IN process.

    Thank you,
    Shai
  • Hello Shai,

Please try the mmWave Sensing Estimator  tool for chirp configuration. Based on the sensing needs for distance and range resolution it will give the parameters to be programmed in device.

For an example level sensing application for liquids please check following TI-Design .

    Thank you,
