IWR1642BOOST: No figure can be viewed in the mmwave demo visualizer

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642

Hi,

My customer get the IWR1642 boost, flash the mmw demo of SDK 1.0 successfully, load profile_2d.cfg from PC and send, we can see the cfg is done well in the console messages of configure view, but we cannot see any figure on the plot view. As the customer cannot login the chrome store, refer to the below post they download the offline version of mmwave demo visualizer and install it with GUI composer runtime download from web.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/mmwave_sensors/f/1023/p/605114/2234673#2234673

We also tried to test the mmw demo through load *.out image in ccs, then load configure in demo visualizer, but still no view in the plot, checked the demo status in ccs we think the demo running well on EVM, but just no view on PC. Would u pls help instruct the possible cause? Thanks.

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

Can you try couple of things

    1. While running from CCS, after sending sensorStart commands halt the CCS execution on DSP core and check' gMmwDssMCB.stats' structure variables for chirp and frame interrupt counter.

    2. Can you try the same demo with TeraTerm/Hyperterminal to send commands and connect other COM port to check if over UART you are getting any obj data.

    3. If nothing succeeds then try to update XDS110 firmware (steps to update XDS110 FW) to update XDS UART path.

    Regards,

    Jitendra

  • Hi Andy,

Could you also please post a screenshot of your "Configure" tab showing your settings and the Console Messages?

    Thank you,
    Kevin

  • Hi Andy,

Have you been able to make any progress on this or are you still facing issues?

    Regards,
    Kevin
  • Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your attention. The customer still doesn't try it as they are busy on something else, I will let u know if any progress.

    Regards,

    Andy

  • Hi Kevin,

Customer tried and the issue still exists.

Tested in mmw demo visualizer, the configuration can be sent well with below screenshot.

Loaded project through ccs and loaded configuration in mmw demo visualizer, viewed the gMmwDssMCB.stats can found the chirp and frame interrupt counter is correct.

The customer used the teraterm to send configuration and check if there is data received on the data port. The configuration can be sent well through user port, but no data received on the data port. Update the xds110 firmware as your instruction the issue still exists. Below is the screenshot.

Do u have any more debug suggestions? It is very strange as I have ever run the mmw demo well using the customer's EVM on my computer, whatever I have let the customer send back to me to check if the evm is destroyed.

    Regards,

    Andy

  • Update the progress, i got back the EVM board, and tested on my computer with the same issue. Run the mmw demo, sent configurations, then measured the xds110 pin PC4 which is connected directly with the IWR1642 pin F14, cannot found signal, if tested on the normal board there is valid signal on the pin. Seems there is no data output from IWR1642.
If tested with dss and mss image loaded through ccs, i can find the counter gMmwDssMCB.stats.chirpEvt and gMmwDssMCB.stats.frameStartEvt is normal. Add global variable to record the number of received message MMWDEMO_MSS2DSS_DETOBJ_SHIPPED, the counter is also normal. Seems the software work well but no data output through F14 pin (AR_MSS_LOGGER), but there is data output using another EVM, it is very strange. I will try to check the uart status register, and do u have any other suggestions?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Andy
  • Hello Andy,

Can you check if the R136 resister (connecting the MSS_LOGGER signal from the AWR device to the XDS110 pin) is mounted? Would it be possible to probe the UART signal on both sides of the resister , just incase there is some issue with the resister assembly?

    Regards,

    Vivek

  • Hi Vivek,

I noticed the R136 register is not mounted, it should be the cause. As I have ever tested the EVM can work well, it should be lost. I will find one register to mount for test. Many thanks.

    Andy
  • Hi Andy,

Have you been able to verify that the missing register was indeed the problem?
