AWR1642: Cascading Configuration

Hi, I want to develop a system in which I have a few AWR1642 interconnected composing a cascaded configuration, but I cannot see clearly which would be the hardware architecture. For what I've understood AWR1642 modules can be connected through the CAN-FD interface. On the other hand, if I want to capture all the data, do I have to use just one TSW1400 + 1 DEVPACK, or do I have to use 1 per AWR1642?

Hello,

Are you looking at having multiple AWR devices which are synchronized and give out ADC data ?

Or are you just looking at multiple AWR devices which are connected to central CAN-FD bus ?

Can you please clarify ?

I want to have multiple AWR1642 devices connected and synchronized and treat the ADC data of all the devices jointly.

Clara,

The AWR1642 device cannot be used for synchronized cascade configurations.

The AWR1243 devices are best suited for the cascade configurations. A 4-chip cascading reference design is under development.

An app note which will serve as a guideline for custom cascade design is also in progress but will be available sooner.

Okay. And in case I was using the AWR1243 devices, how would the synchronization be achieved? What external processor do I have to use?

Synchronization is achieved using the 20GHz RF LO generated by the master chip.

The AWR1243 supports the 20GHz sync . Please see the device comparison section of the AWR1243 Datasheet

The AWR1642 does not have the 20GHz sync support for cascade configuration.

Yes, but they can be connected through the CAN-FD interface.

You can connect them using CANFD but cannot achieve the precise synchronization required for the CASCADE operation.
