AWR1443BOOST: Using TSW1400 and Radar Studio

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443, AWR1642, UNIFLASH, MMWAVE-DFP

Hi,

I am trying to connect AWR1443 +mmWave DevPack+TSW1400 and configure them through Radar Studio 1.7.4.0.

I am able to connect to the board. But any of the configuration commands return a status invalid error in output window.

The radar studio screenshots are as below:

Connection tab:

Static Config tab:

When I click on Set button here, it throws an error on output page.

The error in output tab is:

One could notice that there is some error at the start with reset. the screenshot of error when I click on reset button is as below:

I hope these information are enough to debug the issue. Kindly let me know what else can be done to solve this. I am also facing problem to use AWR1642 with this, which I am posting in a separate thread.

Apart from this I have 2 Questions as:

1. I am using AWR12xx_16bit firmware for programming TSW1400 through HSDC pro. There are no .ini files for xWR1443. I hope this is correct.

2. The AWR1443 doesnt have CSI2 or LVDS outputs, as far as I can see in datasheet. My question is then how it will collect raw data by TSW1400?

Looking forward to solve this issue soon,

Thanks in Advance,

Santhana Raj

  • Santhana,

The device is showing up as a AR16xx in the snapshot you sent . Are you sure you have connected AWR1443?

    -Raghu
  • HI Raghu,
Yes, I Have also noticed that. But I have connected AWR1443 only.
    I thought it is normal.

IF that is an issue, I suspect it is an firmware issue. Any idea where to debug?

    Thanks in advance,
    Santhana Raj
  • Santhana,

You can load the right firmware to the device either using the using the Uniflash .

Can you confirm the version of the AWR1443 you are using ES1.0/ES2.0? Check on the device if the device marking shows 964D(ES2.0) / 964(ES1.0).

    -Raghu

  • Hi Raghu,

I was under the impression that the EVM has to be kept erased.
Anyway, I think I have ES2.0, as the device marking on my chip is 964D.

I am familiar with Uniflash. But if you can say me the location of the bin file, I can load and check.

    Thanks,
    Santhana Raj
  • Santhana,

Your understanding is right. The flash need to be kept erased.

    Please follow below procedure:
    1. Erase the flash using Uniflash.
    2. From the RadarStudio_User_Guide.pdf follow "Section 2.1 Pre-Requisites for Installation" .Please do the steps required for setting up the TSW1400EVM.

    3. From the RadarStudio_User_Guide.pdf perform following steps:
    a. Section 5.1
    b. Section 5.1.1 Board Control Operations : Put the device in SOP 2 mode
    c. Section 5.1.2 RS232 Operations : Connect to the application UART . If the connection is successful, the "Device Status" shows the device type (16xx/14xx).
    d. Section 5.1.3 Firmware Download : Select the firmware as mentioned in the user guide.
e . Section 5.1.4 SPI Connection & RF Power Up
    f. Section 6 Static Config Tab Operations
    g. Section 7 Data Config Tab Operations
    h. Section 8 Profile, Chirp , frameconfig and the TSW1400EVM config.

I still feel you are missing some of the steps that is why the configuration is not successful.

    Regards,
    Raghu
  • Hi Raghu,

I am following these steps as you have mentioned. There is  no change on anything.

You can also see the firmware that I am loading from the pics above.

On connection to RS232 (3c of your steps), the device status shows AWR16xx instead of AWR14xx.

    Any help??

  • Santhana,

Looking at all the RadarStudio snapshot and also your setup it is clear that you are using mix and match of the older Radar Studio with newer firmware etc.

Below is the snapshot of the RadarStudio v1.7.4.0 in the latest MMWAVE-DFP which shows the FTDI, RS232, SPI connectivity status. Your snapshots of the RadarStudio do not show it indicating that you are not using the latest tools in the MMWAVE-DFP version "00.07.00.04".

Please download the MMWAVE-DFP and use the latest RadarStudio in that DFP .

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • HI Raghu,
Sorry for the late response. I was not able to verify your advice properly before. Hence the delay.
I had the recent version of DFP. But again when I re-installed the package. I got an upgrade and Not this issue is resolved.

But still I am facing some problem with SPI connectivity and configurations, WHihc I will post as a separate question/blog.

Thank you very much for the help on this.
    Thanks,
    Santhana Raj
