IWR1642BOOST: Serial Port Grey

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, IWR1642, IWR1443BOOST

Hello,

my problem is, that when I start mmWave Demo Visualizer GUI, the Option Serial port is greyed out and not selectable. So I am not able to select the COM Ports in order to connect the board. I am using the offline version and the Ports are visible in the Hardware Manager.

Kind regards

Leon

  • Hi Leon,

I'd recommend you disconnect the BoosterPack, close out of the visualizer, and restart your CPU. Then you should apply power, connect to USB, and open the visualizer in that specific order.

This should take care of this issue, let us know if it does not.

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Thank you for your fast response.

Unfortunately I am still facing the same problem. Also I am not able to connect to the device with UniFlash. System that I am using is Windows 7. When I use my private Macbook, I have no problems, connecting it, but it needs to be installed on the Windows pc.

    Kind regards

    Leon

  • Hello Leon,

There is a very good chance that you do not have the latest Device Drivers that are found in the latest version of the XDS Software package. I'd recommend you install the latest version which can be found here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../XDS_Emulation_Software_Package

Let me know if this does or does not work.

    Cheers,
    Akash
  • Thank you, but I already tried this, serial ports are still grey.

    Kind regards

    Leon

  • Hello François,

    I followed your list:

    • Please make sure you have the latest version of UniFlash (link). Note we will not use CCS at all here.

    • Put the SOP2 jumper in place on the IWR1642 EVM, connect the EVM to a PC with a USB cable, connect a +5 V power supply to the EVM.

    • In the Windows Device Manager, you should see 2 ports that correspond to the EVM: XDS110 Class Application/User UART and XDS110 Class Auxiliary Data Port.

    • In UniFlash, select IWR1642, then press Start.

    • In the next screen in UniFlash, go to Setting & Utilities and enter the COM port number that corresponds to the XDS110 Class Application/User UART.

    • Click Format SFLASH as a test.

,but it still appears the same Error: "Error! Cannot read property 'DS' of undefined".

I will append a screenshot of the error.

    Kind regards

    Leon

  • Hi Antonia,

This may be the FTDI USB drivers missing then. Please install them from there.

    Thanks,
    François.

  • My customer also have problem when running the demo (VitalSign) of mmwave training series.
The demo execution show error when opening COM ports.
    (They are using LG laptops.)

They installed below items as the guide.
    * Matlab library v9.1 (MCR_R2016b_win64_installer.exe)
    * XDS emulator driver for Windows
    * FTDI VCP drivers

It seems that there is compatibility issue with the demo program with COM port accessing.
Can you check the issue of running the demo?

    Best regards,
    Hayden
  • Hayden,

Can you have you confirm your customer has correctly installed their FTDI drivers? Would it be possible to post a screenshot of their Device Manager from Windows?

I do not have enough information to resolve your problem right now. Feel free to email me if you'd like to take this conversation offline.

    Cheers,

    Akash

  • Hi Akash,

In this case, they can run demo of Web based mmWave Demo Visualizer.
However, error happened when running GUI demo which uses MATLAB Runtime library.
After GUI windows opened, it cannot access the two UART COM ports.
(There is no issue with UART ports when checking Device Manager of Windows.)

    Regards,
    Hayden
  • Hi Hayden,

Please email me if you'd like to pursue this inquiry further. This inquiry is outside the scope of this thread and I don't have enough information to help you right now.

  • Hi Akash,

It seems the issue is not common, happened with specific laptops.
I will send e-mail if there is any update or question.
    Thank you.

  • Hello,

I am currently facing the same problem.

Today my IWR1443BOOST arrived and I wanted to test the "out of box" demo.

The "Serial Port"-Button in the demo visuaizer is greyed out too.

I tried to flash the device with the current SDK demo binaries, but the same error popped up: "Cannot read property 'DS' of undefined".

I have the latest SDK installed.

    I installed the FTDI driver

I installed the emu pack / XDS drivers.

I tried using the offline visualizer, but it does not run on my PC. When I start that visualizer, I see a white page with "Connection refused. Description: Connection refused".

The COM Ports of the IWR1443BOOST are visible in the device manager - so everything seems to be ok there.

I am using Windows 10 on a notebook.

    Best regards and thank you,

    Enric

  • Okay, it seems like my companys firewall blocked it...

When I disconnect the network connection, the Serial Port button is clickable

and the offline app "demo visualizer" works, without "connection refused".

    Sorry and thanks!

    Enric
