IWR1642BOOST: Max Radial Velocity in mmWave Demo Visualizer and velocity disambiguation

Part Number: IWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1642

Hi,

In the mmWave Demo Visualizer one of the configurable options is the maximum radial velocity. Based on chirp parameters this appears to be the theoretical max velocity. In the mmWave demo doxygen though it talks about velocity disambiguation and makes it look as though that is implemented.

Can somebody confirm if in the mmWave Demo Visualizer a max radial velocity of say 3m/s is chosen does this mean when running the demo targets up to 6 m/s will be made unambiguous?

Thanks

  • Hi,

I've gone through those links but I'm not sure that answers it for me. I'm really trying to find out if in the mmWave demo the velocity disambiguation is implemented and on by default.

I did find something in the mmWave SDK user guide which has an item for "extendedMaxVelocity" in table 1. This is what I want but then I'm not sure I fully understand how to enable it for the IWR1642. I can send commands over the CLI UART. However, what it means by "legacy" in the column three over from the "extendedMaxVelocity" entry I'm not sure. Can you explain to me what legacy mode is?

Even better could you provide a simple .cfg file that shows the extendedMaxVelocity line with it being active? I am using SDK version 1.0 so could I also check if this is supported in SDK version 1.0?

    Thanks,

    John

  • Hi John,

You need to install SDK version 1.1.

Once you've installed it you can use the extendedmaxVelocity by using the profile in C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_01_01_00_02\packages\ti\demo\xwr16xx\mmw\profiles\profile_2d.cfg
