AWR1243BOOST: Radar Studio: Issue with Test pattern generator and trigger frame

Part Number: AWR1243BOOST

I am trying to generate standard input set from Radar Studio. I am using AWR1243Boost +TSW1400 along with Radar studio ver 1.9.2.1. I have 3 questions on this as below:

1. I tried to use the test pattern generator to generate standard data over LVDS. But the output window says "CRC FAILED". The screenshots are as below:

I would like to know why this error comes and how to rectify it.

2. In the Sensor config tab,  After all the setting is done, I click on the "Set Up TSW1400" button. followed by "TSW1400 ARM", Then "Trigger Frame". No capture happens.

From the Output window, I see that When I press the ARM button, it looks for already captured data and says "No data collected". I have to repeat the ARM and trigger frame buttons multiple times beofre the HSDC pro starts capturing.

The next major problem is I am not able to stop the capture (No button press in radar studio helps) and the data doesn't get copied to the bin file. I have to power off the board and if I am lucky, some data(not all) gets copied to the bin file occasionally.

The screenshots are as below:

The output window is:

the radar studio user guide is not of much help as I see the document is not updated with the current version of UI.(I still see the Real Time button whcih was present in older UI but not in my current version)

3. In the Test Source tab, what does the signal level signify. -95dBFs is a larger signal strength or a smaller? And what range is allowable

I also would like to know how to create a test source with only one object rather than two.

Thank you in advance, for any help regarding these 3 questions.

  • Hi,

This training may be helpful to you.

Also, can you please post one question per e2e thread. This will help us work on issues in parallel

    thank you

  • Hi Cesar,

    Thank you for your help.
I would post as you advise from the next time.

As far as the video link you have provided, it uses a older version of radar studio than mine, which doesnt have the test pattern generator. it doesn't help my Question 1. And there is no explanation about Q3 also.

Regarding the Q2, i see that there are 2 major changes. One, Number of frames is set to a finite number. and Only 1 Tx is initialized. Is that the case?? Are these 2 conditions necessary for Radar Studio to work properly??
  • Hello Santhana,

Let me get back to you on question 1, I will have to test this and see if I encounter the same error.

Regarding question 2, try setting the number of frames to a finite number. The TSW1400 is not supposed to be used with an infinite number of frames. The issue where you have to press the ARM and Trigger frame buttons multiple times before it starts capturing is a known issue. Unfortunately, there is no known solution for this issue.

For question 3, dBFS signifies the signal strength with respect to the largest possible signal the RX can handle, with 0dBFS being the highest possible value. A signal strength of -95dBFS is a very low signal strength. To only have one object, you can just set the signal strength of the second object low enough so that it is below the noise floor. I will need to get back to you regarding the minimum value allowable for this parameter.

    Regards,

    Adrian
  • Hi Adrian,

Thank you for your suggestion. Your solution for Q2, resolved my issue.
The answer for Q3 was also helpful for my understanding.
I am facing some other problem in Post processing in matlab. I have raised a new question on that anyway.

Regarding Question1 , I look forward to the answer as we are looking to test LVDS interface in our custom boards.

    Thanks in Advance,
