RE: AWR1642: Change sensor configuration

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Dears,

what is the minimum blocking distance of this radar sensor model? I mean what is the minimum distance from the sensor to the object that can be detected?

Kind regards

FM

  • FMZ,

When using a 4 GHz bandwidth chirp, which is the largest bandwidth supported by AWR1642, the theoretical range resolution is 4 cm.

Please refer to this white paper for additional information: www.ti.com/.../swra553.pdf

  • Dear Kyle,

Is that mean if I placed an object 4 cm from sensor it can detect it? please confirm!

    Kind regards

    FM

  • FMZ,

Please keep in mind that a variety of factors affect the ability of any FMCW radar to detect an object. So it would not be appropriate to provide a blanket answer like this. That being said, if you read through our SDK documentation, you will find several CLI commands that help with detected objects that are close to the radar. You also need to keep the range of your detected objects in mind when you design your target chirp. This will be a key factor in enabling close detection of objects.

    Kyle
