OPT8241-CDK-EVM: Vertical stripes issue and "data_latency" register

Hi TI,

my OPT8241-CDK-EVM is showing the vertical stripes issue. This phenomenon is observed in amplitude and naturally also transcends to phase/distance.

Example can be seen on the following image:

It occurs with certain probability (probably less than 20 %) during the camera initialization.

And it could be resolved by decreasing the value of register "data_latency" [0,31] from the default value of 3 to value of 2.

My question is whether there were some other reports of this issue and most importantly how does the "data_latency" work?

Hi Martin,

This is a known issue in OPT9221 firmware version 0.23, and has been fixed in later versions.

Please upgrade to version 0.29 available here:
www.ti.com/.../sbac142

thanks for your answer!

So I have updated the firmware of OPT9221 to version 0.29 using EEPROM programmer.

Unfortunately since the stripes issue only occurred with some probability it would take some time to find out whether it has been resolved or not.

In the meantime, may I ask whether there is a simple way of finding out what is the current version of firmware of OPT9221?

(So that I would know whether also my other cameras needs update or not)

All our CDKs shipped with version 0.23, so if you have a CDK, you would need to update them.

You can read the "minor" parameter - this returns the firmware version (23 for the default firmware, 29 for the updated one). If the update went through correctly, this should read 29.
