DDC11XEVM-PDK: Replacing the DDC114 with DDC118 on the DDC11xEVM board

Part Number: DDC11XEVM-PDK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DDC114, DDC118

Hi,

I have the "ddc11xevm-pdk" evaluation module for the DDC114.
Since I need 8 channels instead of 4, I wonder if I could replace the DDC114 on the board with a DDC118 (they are pin compatible, except the 4 extra analog-in channels)?
Off course I will do that on my own responsibility, and aware that it will cancel any warranty TI has for this product. I am also aware that I will have to do some modifications to the board itself, at my own risk.
The question is if the software that controls the "ddc11xevm-pdk" can handle 8 channels instead of 4? (it seems that I can select 8 channels in the user interface).
Thank you in advance, and best regards,
Boaz

  • Hello Boaz,

We have received your inquiry about replacing the DDC114 on the DDC11xevm with the DDC118.
I will check with the team and will get back to you soon.
  • Hi Praveen,

I have changed my plan. It seem that replacing the ddc114 with ddc118 on the evaluation board is too challenging, and I will still need long and cumbersome coax cables to the photodiodes.

My next plan is to remove the ddc114 from the evaluation board, and connect all the control lines from the evaluation board (from the via holes) to a smaller PCB with a qfn-48 pin socket, such as the one shown below, that will have the ddc118.

For better performance, I'm intending to place the Ref voltage on this board (4.096V), copied from your evaluation board, so the reference voltage is not too far from the A/D converter.

My question is as before, assuming this hardware improvisation works, will the evaluation board's software recognize the DDC118 with it's 8 channels (instead of the DDC114 and four channels)?

    Best regards,

    Boaz
