Hi,

Our device is going to be used as handheld or monitor.

I have used afe4490evm & custom based afe4404 for evaluating of spo2 waveform/plethysmograph with transmission type probe in common anode led configuration.I have seen that spo2 waveform with afe4490 is more stable compared to that tested with afe4404 in terms of drift in whole waveform.

Is there specific difference between architecture(in terms of filtering) of both which causes it?

Which afe of spo2 TI suggests/recommends for medical application used in hospitals?

Hi Neelima,

If you are looking for clinical grade application, AFE4490 would be better choice as compared to AFE4404 because of the higher performance ( SNR).
But AFE4404 is best choice for the wearable because of its size and power consumption.

what are the good features of AFE4490 which make it suitable for clinical grade application and which are not provided in AFE4404.

Hi Jayashree,

AFE4490 has lower noise numbers and it has a diagnostic mode which helps to detect fault in the sensor and PD. This is useful to detect when sensor cable is disconnected, LED/PD is shorted or opened.
