Is the TMP006, Can be used for Field of view of 10 deg?
The Applications Engineer supporting the TMP006 will be back Jan.3, sorry for the delay. We are currently looking into this.

In reply to Chris Featherstone:
Considering that the TMP006 has a field of view of nearly 150°, 10° is a drastic reduction. The field of view can be limited to this degree with the right window, but the effective SNR would be hugely reduced since so much of the incoming signal would be blocked. It might be possible to compensate for this with some optical gain provided by a lens.
Can you tell me more about your application in order for me to determine its feasibility?

In reply to Ian Williams:
Need to measure the average temperature of the objects at the field of view of 10deg. Pls see a datasheet of the sensor MLX90614ESF-BCF by Melexis, is answer customer demands.
In reply to eli:
The Melexis device costs $16 at 1ku volume, so it is not comparable to the TMP006 which was designed to be a low-cost sensor primarily used in consumer electronics.
Also, you did not tell me anything about the application. What is the customer trying to measure, and what is the ambient environment like? Why is such a narrow FOV required?
use it for cloud detection, wall temperature etc.
looking at object which are few meters away.
For other customer do you have application note ,for using TMP006 for smoke detector
Earlier I requested specific application information which you did not provide. Are you able to provide this information? The TMP006 often requires calibration and some type of window/lens for a particular application, there is no "one size fits all" set of guidance I can give you. Also, there is not an application note for smoke detection.
They used it for use it for cloud detection, wall temperature etc .look at object which are few meters away.
This is the same information as before.
A cloud detection application is not feasible. A sensor with much higher sensitivity and accuracy than the TMP006 is required for such an application.
A wall temperature application is very straightforward, since a wall is a large planar surface and it will therefore encompass a large portion of the TMP006's field of view. What particular assistance is needed with this application?
I know this post is a year old, but maybe you'll see it. :)
If I wanted to measure only a spot, say 2-5 cm wide what FOV would I use to be about 30-40cm away?
And would the SNR be manageable at that point?
In other words, if I got close enough, would this IR sensor be accurate +/- 1C?
