CO2 sensing with thermopile sensor

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP91051, TMP007
TI has a reference design for CO2 sensing here: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/snaa207/snaa207.pdf

This includes a LMP91051 NDIR AFE and MSP430F55XX MCU. My question is: in the reference design above, a third party CO2 sensor has been deployed, i.e., Alphasense IRC-AT. A CO2 sensor uses an IR thermopile to detect concerning voltage. TI has a product TMP007: http://www.ti.com/product/tmp007

It is not marketed as a thermopile but as a temperature sensor. My question is could we use TMP007 with a IR bulb to detect CO2 in the sampling chamber? As a third party CO2 sensor costs over $200, which is made primarily for ambient sensing, using TMP007 may get our BOM cost dramatically down.
