Before reinventing the wheel and designing our own "metal cover" with a small aperture to reduce the FOV i would like to ask both TI and the community on this forum if someone have these for sale.

The FOV is not critical for us at this point as long as it is reduced compared to a naked sensor, we essentially want to start evaluate if it meets our expectations.

If you have some or know where to buy, please respond. Anything is of interest at this point.

If anyone is interested in collaborating in the making of one, please let us know.

The metal lids are not commercially available. I designed some and had them built by PhotoFab. They are a flat design that I have to form by hand just for evaluation purpouses. I have had very good results with them. PhotoFab has indicated that they could provide press formed parts for relitivly cheap in volume.

Just one other thing to add. We just relesed to distribution our TMP007EasyCal EVM. The target board for this EVM has a footprint that will accept my shields. You might concider it if you are serious about trying the shields out.

I have TMP007 evm. Can i use this shield on its target board?
Is metal cover/shield available through distributors in india ?

Hi Neelima,

Unfortunately, the shield cannot be used with the current TMP007EVM. We are currently working on the new revision that allows end user to evaluate different type of shields. Stay tune!

If you want the part number of the shield, I can send to you; however, I am not sure if it is available in India. It might be difficult for you to solder the shield onto the TMP007EVM.

Just another one that would like to know more about the shield availability. Where can I get it and is there a recommended solder pattern available.

Estimated volume is about 10k / year, manufacturing site will be in China.

A few people have shown the same interest that we original had, we actually ended up not using the TMP00x sensor partially because of the "shield can" issues with unknown result, minimum order quantities and our prototyping show that it would be a time and cost consuming task to use this sensor.

We received some quotes for making a can like the fotos in this thread and a sample order of 1000pcs would cost $1800 plus NRE $1000 for tooling, price would drop with volume but there would be no cost savings using the SMT TMP007 just added risks so we ended up using a traditional digital IR sensor in TO body with known field of view etc... for less money.

Thank you for your inquiry. We push very hard to get the shields on the market. I'll try to contact the manufacture when they provide on the Digikey for ordering.

Attached is the dimension as well as the landing pattern for the shield. If you have any question, please feel free to contact me. We have completed the symbol and footprint for the shield if you are interested. I'll also try to get this release as well.
