TMP112AIDRLT - SDA short to GND

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP112

Hi,

Our customer uses this temp sensor TMP112AIDRLT and so far three devices from the same batch failed in production. All three had the same problem, SDA has a resistive (16, 34, 58 ohm) short to ground. Have you came across similar problem before?

Rgds,

DJ

  • Hi DJ,

We have not seen this type of failure mechanism on TMP112.

The resistive values indicate ESD type damage to the device. Can you share a schematic drawing of the device setup?

It is the best to find out and eliminate the ESD source. However you can try adding a limiting resistor right before the device on SDA pin. It may or may not be effective though. And it is important to keep its values much smaller than the pull up resistor. Also it may be necessary to incorporate transzorbs in the design.

  • Hi Guang,

Thanks for your response, appreciate it very much.

I have the schematics from the customer and they requested me not to post it on the forum. Would you be able to share your email address so that I can send directly to your attention. Thanks.

    Regards,
    DJ
