Accuracy TMP007 in CC2650STK

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650STK

Hi,

We have bought 2 CC2650STK sensor tags for tests and expirements. Its houses, among others, the TMP007 for Infrared and ambient temperature. The readings are very inaccurate, one sensor reports too low, the other too high like 13 degrees celcius in the fridge. Does anyone have similar experiences? Should we somehow calibrate the sensor?

Thank you for your reply,

Frits Huijgen

  • Hi Frits,

First I need to understand your setup, could you please draw some sketch? I need to know how you place and connect the TMP007. Can you also provide the schematic as well? Thanks.

    Aaron
  • Hi Aaron,

Thanks for trying to help. The CC2650STK is a standard TI product called the Sensor Tag, see www.ti.com/.../TIDC-CC2650STK-SENSORTAG Documents

  • Hi Frits,

I reviewed the Sensor Tag kit that you provided the link, and I realized that I also have one on my desk. Yes I am absolutely agreed with you that the TMP007 is in the Sensor Tag. Please see attached picture in red circle.

However, in order to get the precision reading from the object temperature, a Field of View (FOV), distance, layout recommendation, and as well as shielding the device must be considered. I would like to clarify that when Sensor Tag team placed the TMP007 on their board. I don't think they consulted with us. It wasn't designed based on our feedback furthermore the footprint and layout isn't really what we would have recommended. It's great for a demo, but this is not something for a precision temperature reading. This is why you get an offset reading.

I attached the sample picture for you.

The attached presentation is created by my colleague. More information on how to design in the TMP006 and TMP007.

If you want to evaluate the TMP006 or TMP007, I would suggest you to get the EVM from us available online.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks a lot Aaron. Your answer does make me wonder about the accuracy of the other sensors. Temperature readings are easily checked, but how can we tell if the magnetometer is performing properly. TI encourages people to use the design and schematics of the sensor tag for IOT applications, which we were considering to do. But our customers expect more than demo quality.
  • Dear Aaron,

Could you comment page 4 (Performance) on attached presentation.

It seems pictures should be exchanged?
