TMP007 Multiple Calibrations per environment

Based on another post in the TI TMP forums, here, the TMP006/TMP007 device -

"device is specified for +/-1C typical and +/-3C max in the range"

(referring to a 15˚C range from 25~40).

If this is the case, in order to get better results, should one use multiple calibration coefficient sets (say a set for 0˚C ~ 50˚C , and a different coefficient set for 50˚C ~ 150˚C)?

And update the coefficient registers before using in different temperature extremes

The TMP007 datasheet specifies +/-1C typical and +/-3C max for the range of temperatures Tdie = 20 to 40C and Tobj = 0 to 60C.

This assumes common coefficients for all devices in customer's production. If the customer performs calibration on each device in production, and applies personal coefficients, then a higher accuracy can be achieved.

OK, so with the per-device calibrations - then just using 1 set of coefficients should be adequate in most cases (even large ranges of 0˚C to 150˚C)?

It's possible that you could further optimize for an expected range, but the application may not facilitate intelligently switching between coefficients. You might also find that the benefit is negligible. We have not heard of a customer who implemented such a scheme, nor have we suggested that one be implemented. It's a decision that would need to be made on a case-by-case basis.
